It’s my birthday soon. I want an evening at home with my boy, good food, movies, and cuddles on the couch.

…I’m simple tho. Without knowing your girlfriend, it’s hard to say what she might want.

Jewelry is always nice too. ;-)

    1. Think about what she likes: jewelry, games (PS or even boardgames), clothes. Pay attention to what she does when you’re together, what movies she says she wants to see, what kind of food she chooses to eat, what colors she tends to wear, what music she tends to listen to. This should give you an idea of her general tastes. If you don’t have any idea of what she likes, try asking. But don’t make it too obvious that you’re asking because you want to buy it for her.
    2. Think about what she does in her spare time and if she has any hobbies you could get her something for. For example, if she’s into drawing, you could get a very nice sketchbook and pencils from an art store, or a drawing tablet.
    3. Try to recall past conversations to see if she made any hints about presents or stuff she would like to buy.
    4. Get something practical that she could use which reflects her own personal style, such as a handbag or a laptop case.
    5. Consult her friends or her mother. Usually a friend or parent has a really good sense of her tastes from knowing her a long time and would be more than happy to help.
    6. Go out and buy it. If you don’t have enough money, buy it for her another time. Or just buy her something else she likes that is less money! It is the thought (and effort) that counts, generally more than the object itself. If she knows you tried your best, then she will still appreciate it.
    7. Sometimes, the simplest things work. Buy her a simple flower, and if you are close to where she lives, leave it on her step. Also leave a little note saying something like "I’m thinking of you" or other nice things. Even if the girl doesn’t like flowers, she will like that fact that you’re thinking of her and think it’s kind of romantic.
    8. Look at her iPod if she has one. See what artists she has a lot of songs from, and maybe get her a CD from that artist that she doesn’t have. She’ll appreciate that you’re making an effort to get into ‘her’ music.
    9. Don’t give her money! If you must, choose a gift card to one of her favorite stores.
    10. Don’t go cheap when buying jewelry, clothing, or purses for your girl. Ladies pay more attention to labels; sometimes if you buy something expensive she’ll like it anyway just for the price. Some labels girls love are: Louis Vuitton, Coach, Juicy Couture, Uggs, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Aero, etc. Or you could opt for the cheaper but more fashionable labels like, Topshop, River Island, Zara or H&M.

    ******* T I P S *******

    # Pay attention! She’s going to give subtle hints, so listen up.
    # Smile at your loved one while you give her the gift (women love this).
    # Gifts don’t always have to be on a special occasion (like her birthday). You could give her a gift just because it’s Tuesday! [Giving random gifts shows that you really care]
    # Jewelry is always a good idea [but it depends on the female in question, and also can be costly, depending on her tastes]. Not every gift of jewelry has to be platinum and diamonds. Listen and observe carefully. If you rarely see her wearing gold, or diamonds, they wouldn’t be a good pick for her. Watch what colors she wears, and even submit to walking through the jewelry department of a store. The pieces she looks at the most are often the ones she finds appealing, and even if they are expensive, you can always try to find something similar. Be careful with trying this unless you know her well, or have someone else’s opinion who knows her well. Stick with gifts you can afford. If you know your girlfriend isn’t that picky or shallow, then get her some cute earrings or something simple yet pretty.
    # You might need a friend with you to pick out pretty things that she likes, but make sure your girlfriend isn’t in the same store or she’ll think you’re cheating.
    # Just because you already bought her a necklace doesn’t mean she couldn’t use another! Also, by doing this, you are indirectly saying that she is not obligated to constantly wear the jewelry you give her. This is a good form of flattery. However, don’t buy a necklace every single time. Girls need variation!
    # A simple locket or a silver heart is the best jewlery. Gold, is not such a good idea for some girls, it seems pushy or too expensive. Get gifts that remind her of your time togeter. Such as if you go to the zoo get her something such as a stuffed tiger or any of her favorite exibits, or give her somthing that will remind her of a joke.

Girls want something romantic that they can hold on to forever and look at it and remind them of you, So give a nice piece of Jewelry, and have her name engraved on it. Make sure it is beautiful…Or even better! A wedding ring. Either way, Make sure whatever you give her comes from the heart and can make her feel special.

Maybe you can get some ideas from this.

It was my friends birthday & she had to work. I knew she would be home at 6pm. Before she got home I placed a rose & birthday card in her mailbox & an envelope with "read me" on her front door.
    The envelope note read:
"I know that at times (ok most of the time) I annoy you with my questions & weird sense of humour, I’m kinda sorry but not really, I’m completely relaxed & am my true self when with you, You’re such a great friend. You’re words of wisdom & encouragement have seen me through bad days. Thank you for being a truly amazing friend all my love V.
p.s. Hope you don’t mind your uncle gave me the spare key & I used your kitchen to make you a cake.
p.p.s. I know you’ve been bored & lonely ’cause your friends have gone home for the Uni holidays so…"

Inside her front door I placed rose petals & small incense candles leading to her bedroom (where she spends most of her time). A note on her bedroom door read "Tonight is the night" (I was always too busy for what she kept asking) The cake was on her desk with an "eat me" note, a knife & plate next to the cake read "use me". under the plate a note had a clue to where I had hidden a present (8 clues 8 presents in total) The last present had a note with "phone me please".

5min before she’d be home & with everything in place, I hid outside. After she went inside I waited by her front door for her to phone me. When my phone rang, I rang her doorbell to suprise her. We spent the night eating cake & all her fave foods while watching her fave movies(which is what I had been too busy for)
The presents were her fave dvds.
When the Uni. holidays ended I organised a party for her & her friends. As presents the party photos were given to her in a photo album, which was signed by her friends & a cd of her fave songs & a dvd of Q&As I made with her friends.
She tells everyone it’s the best birthday of all time.
What made it all the more special for her was 1. I don’t like most of her fave movies or fave food. 2. I spent alot of time & effort to make for 2 great nights.
    Her happiness was my happiness.
Movie nights (Zzzzfest) is now a weekly thing. She has bad taste in movies, I mean chick flicks yuck! but it’s each others company that counts.
